Students at Temple University are taking the time to engage in the Italian culture both on campus and throughout the city.
Not only are students studying Italian but also those who are interested in the culture are participating in the activities and events that the officers of the Italian club plan.
As secretary of the Italian club, I have an insider's look into how decisions are made regarding these events. What seems to catch students' attention is experiencing Italian food and Italian pop culture.
So the officers and I decided to run bocce playing tournaments, Italian game nights, Italian film showings and Italian food potlucks. The students took the time to learn how to play bocce and even learned the rules of Italian card games and such.
As Temple students, we strive to open others' minds to learn more about other cultures and lifestyles. Off campus, the Italian club members visit local restaurants and the officers meet with other local college Italian club officers. We feel it is important to keep a connection with younger generation Philadelphians who are interested in the Italian culture.
Culture and academics are a huge part of what the Italian club stands for. There is a goal of fun and enjoyment of the activities, but students are also learning more about Italy and Italians to help further either their language skills or their cultural education.
We wish we could offer a trip to Italy for the students, however, at this point in the year- we feel we have opened a world of new experiences and fun events for Temple students and have plenty more ideas in the works...
